Anathem

Erasmus lives in the Concent, a sanctuary for mathematicians, scientists and philosophers. Only three times throughout history has violence invaded and destroyed the cloistered community, and the inhabitants have always adapted. But now the gates are about to be opened to the outside world, and Erasmus finds himself a major player in a drama that will determine the future of his world. In preparation, he sets out on an odyssey to the most dangerous corners of the planet.
