Lugemikus on valik väga erineval teemal kirjutisi eesti kultuurist, folkloorist, geograafiast, majandusest, kirjandusest, kunstist, muusikast, spordist, tervishoiust ja teadusest.
Originaaltekstide keelt ja stiili on mõnevõrra lihtsustatud, et nad sobiksid paremini üliõpilaste lisalektüüriks.
Lugemik on mõeldud tudengitele, kes on õppinud eesti keelt Felix Oinase õpiku «Basic Estonian» järgi.


«The Estonian General Reader» contains selections on variety of topics – Estonian folklore, geography, economics, history, literary and language, art, music, sports, public health, and science. The language and style of the original works have been somewhat simplified, so as to make them better suited for reading material for students. The reader is designed for students who have completed «Basic Estonian» by the same author or the equivalent.
