The author, Hilary Bird, is a writer and translator. Hilary’s mother was Estonian but she was adopted by British parents. Hilary fell in love with Tartu when she came to Estonia to find out more about her roots. She now lives in the city with her cat, Jelli. Hilary, who is studying for a PhD in Estonian history, wrote this guide to share her passion for her wonderful new home and its dynamic history with the world.
