This book tells the story of a revolution, discreet but profound, carried out by women designers, decorators, ceramists who, by designing beautiful, functional and accessible objects, have demonstrated how a simple daily gesture can turn into an act of freedom and change. Their approach, deeply humanistic, attentive to people and empathetic toward the user, places care at the center as a design dimension and as a social value. Their work, often relegated to the margins of design historiography, also offers a privileged lens through which to understand the social and cultural transformations that swept through the Nordic countries between the early twentieth century and the 1970 the transition from tradition to modernity, from craftsmanship to industry, from a hierarchical society to a more inclusive one. A journey that intertwines with the broader battles of women for emancipation and gender equality.
