Viivi Luik is an Estonian poet, prose writer, and essayist whose work has left a profound mark on Estonian literature. She began her literary career in 1965 with the publication of her first poetry collection, “Pilvede püha” (“The Feast of Clouds”). Since then, she has continued to publish poetry that captivates readers with its distinct poetic voice, often reflecting the perception of the world and emotions through nature, its mystical beauty, clarity, and all-encompassing fragility.
Viivi Luik is also widely known for her novels, especially “Seitsmes rahukevad” (“The Seventh Spring of Peace”) and “Ajaloo ilu” (“The Beauty of History”), both of which have enjoyed great success in Estonia and abroad, being translated into multiple languages and receiving widespread acclaim. Her third novel, the autobiographical travel book “Varjuteater” (“Shadow Theatre”), published in 2010, is another testament to her literary mastery and deep sense of time.
