Mika Keränen is a children’s author of Finnish origin who has become beloved in Estonia by readers both young and old. His books are especially known for their heartfelt and exciting stories set in the Supilinn neighborhood of Tartu. Keränen’s stories are filled with adventure, friendship, the charm of everyday life, and mystery, offering young readers an engaging reading experience.
His first children’s book, “Varastatud oranž jalgratas” (“The Stolen Orange Bicycle”), was published in 2008 and quickly became a favorite among young readers. Encouraged by its success, he continued the series, where a group of four friends solve strange cases happening in Supilinn. The popular family film "Supilinna salaselts" (“The Secret Society of Souptown”) was based on these adventures.
Keränen often weaves themes like sports, ethics, and interpersonal relationships into his books. These elements are also explored in the "Armando" series, written especially for children. His books have been translated into several languages, including Finnish, Russian, and Latvian.
In addition to children's literature, Mika Keränen has published a poetry collection, “Tähelepanekuid noorusaastatest” (“Observations from Youth”), and contributed to the “Minu” travel book series with “Minu Supilinn” (“My Supilinn”) and “Minu Karjala” (“My Karelia”), where he shares his personal affection for both places.
