Japan 1900

Japan opened its doors to the outside world in 1868, ending more than 200 years of seclusion and bringing the country into the modern age. Sebastian Dobson and Sabine Arque have compiled old, hand-colored photographs and colorful photochromes to reveal Japan in the 1900s, from Beppu's hot springs to the new capital of Tokyo.
